America's Coming of Age

I believe that the Spanish-American war had a very positive effect on world history. The Spanish-American war was America's breakthrough. It's when we show how strong we are and what we're capable of. The war is how Theodore Roosevelt got famous and became president. Without him as president we wouldn't have a progressive era. Without the progressive era, we wouldn't have the Roosevelt corollary, womens' suffarage, the FDA, public utilities, workers' compensation,etc. The number of pros from the Spanish American war outweigh the number of cons.
